You won't find a nicer one than this! Really fun to play with the high C string.
Maybe we can meet in the middle now that we have the time...
1953 Kay S-51B. 5 string upright acoustic bass. Highly flamed natural white maple, laminated, like all Kay basses. Solid Ebony fingerboard.
The 5 string Kay was made popular by the phenomenal entertainer from the late 1940's, Chubby Jackson.
One owner until 2014, when I got it from the family of Hubert S.,deceased.
See the pic of Hubert with his band "The Saddle Pals" and this bass from the early 1950's. They opened for Tex Ritter at the "Boot Hill Fiesta" in Kansas. Hubert got Tex to autograph a promo picture. The family gave me a copy of this pic. It is included with the bass. They don't know what happened to the original.
Also included is a color copy of the Boot Hill Fiesta program, two pages.
Hubert got a 1959 Fender Precision and retired his beloved upright, when he moved to Colorado. He became a farmer in Longmont, Co. and this bass sat in the family house ever since.
The nicest one I've ever seen, in amazing condition with only one small ding on the front edge, repaired long ago. All joints and seams are tight and solid.
Strung with a high C, as originally intended, to make the high range available "without any extra effort."
It sounds great as is, but like all instruments will need some minor tweaks to get it perfect.
It will need a new endpin, has a dowel in there right now. And a new adjustable bridge will make this killer bass complete!
