**Our Testing Standards:

Fuzz Audio tests each tube thoroughly.

-First we use a B&K 607 Emissions Tester for leakage and shorts.

The 607 is one of the best leakage and shorts testers made. It’s leakage test is extremely sensitive compared to a Hickok’s and adds 8 more short tests to the Hickok 539B’S 5 short tests.

Next, after a tube has passed testing on the B&K, we test for microphonics, mutual conductance and preform the Life Test on a calibrated Western Electric KS-15560-L1 (Hickok 539B).

Hickok 539B tests include:

Sound Test- During the Sound Test, 5 additional short tests are conducted as each tube is tested under real life conditions, connected to a sensitive radio antenna and listened to (the antenna picks up even the smallest discharges of current flow that would not power a light indicator or register on any multi-mete). Of course, we do this to make sure the tube has no unwanted microphonics in the tube. This test result is given in a score from 1 – 10 where 5 is reject and 10 is as silent as possible.

Next is, the bread and butter, patented Hickok Gm test:

The 539B meter reads in Gm instantaneously on the most sensitive Gm tube tester ever made. No random numbers that require you to calculate backwards, forwards or sideways. We give it to you in Gm and accurately. If someone says Gm value 92 they either need to do some more calculations for you or the tube is bad. A typical Gm value (especially if the tube is good) is above 1000. For example, a 6v6 has minimum Gm of 2350.

The very final test we conduct is the life test:

With the Gm test button depressed- the current flow to the tube is reduced by 20%. Hickok says that a tube “passes the life test” if the tube reads no less than 20% of its original Gm value. At Fuzz Audio we reject a tube with > 5% depreciation of initial Gm value or label it used.
