Up for sale is a 2007 Tacoma, Washington built Guild F47 Rosewood. This is not your standard F47. In fact, I have never seen one like this in all my years of following Guild. I daily guitar hunt for Guilds all across the internet, viewing hundreds of listings per day, and this is a first for me. It is similar to a limited run of Guilds built for the 2011 Namm show called GSRs or Guild Special Reserve. With this f47 predating those guitars by 5 years, I can only assume that this is a prototype build, or a special order build. If anyone has any information on this guitar, please message me because I would love to learn more about it.
This F47r has lots of subtle, high end appointments, that really set it apart from the other top of the line model Guilds. It comes with a highly figured East Indian Rosewood back. In many ways, it resembles Brazilian Rosewood as well as Cocobolo. The head stock has a rosewood overlay with mother of pearl Guild "peak" logo, and a vintage style "G" logo. The tuners are open back Gotoh's with custom ivory style tuners with G shield inlays. The ebony fretboard has mother of pearl block inlays that come with standard F47 models. The sound board has a slim abalone rosette, and an aftermarket pick guard that was recently installed by the previous owner. I do not know if the top is spruce or Adirondack, but it has a tight, straight grained pattern, and sounds excellent. The ebony bridge features mother of pearl dot bridge pins with gold ring inlays. The 12th fret also features a vintage style abalone G logo inlay. The neck is a three piece Mahogany/Walnut/Mahogany design that is in excellent condition. The guitar is fully bound in what appears to be ivoroid binding.
The only three real issues with this guitar are a side crack in the waist area of the lower bout that should be an easy repair for a luthier. The other issue is the aftermarket pick guard was not installed properly and is slightly crooked. I would recommend getting an authentic Guild pick guard and have a luthier remove the current one and replace it. There is a light scratch mark looking flaw on the back in the lower bout area as well.
When it comes to pricing this guitar, there are not many comps to go by. I have seen the 2011 GSR guilds list in a wide range from 2-4000 dollars. So for now, until i can learn a bit more about the model, and talk to some guild experts, I will put a ball park price on it for 2,500. I have a possible sale pending on the guitar, but I wanted to go ahead and get it listed in order to share the pictures and write up with all the Guild lovers out there. Enjoy the pictures and thanks for looking!!
