This Monkeymatic is based on Fender's 6G3 "tweed" Deluxe, and includes a vintage Fender Princeton output transformer, but features many modern twists. A solid state rectifier and new Hammond power transformer deliver 300 volts to a pair of JJ 6V6GT power tubes (the sweet spot, IMHO), for 10 watts of output power into a 12" Eminence speaker.
Further improvements include a 220K plate resistor in the first stage for a bit of compression, stiffer filtering and fixed bias for fuller low frequency handling, and grid and screen resistors on the power tubes to increase longevity.
The result is a snappy and responsive amp that sounds amazing when the volume is increased. More distortion is added until about noon on the Volume control, and as you continue turning the knob clockwise, more bottom is added, until you've got a roaring tweed engine that's light in weight, and big in tone.
3/31/2020 note: The cabinet is a rescued, USA-made, 90s Peavey, and shows minor signs of wear.
