D'AQUISTO NEW YORKER
This is the Real Deal ! D’Aquisto New Yorker 18″ arch top hand-built by Master luthier Jimmy D’Aquisto and dated 4/2/77. This guitar has stunning hand-carved, master-grade flamed Maple back & sides with a lovely hand-carved European Spruce top. Excellent-plus condition.
This fingerboard, bridge, tailpiece, bridge & faceplate are all made of very clean, streak-free Ebony. This stunning instrument has the superlative responsiveness to the lightest touch, and resonate a deep, punchy tone with unbelievable clarity and sweetness, that D’Aquisto are known for. This has a medium C/D -shaped neck with a beautiful Ebony fingerboard.
One of the less than 400 guitars hand made by James D'Aquisto, arguably the finest archtop guitar builder of all time, and successor to John D'Angelico. This is a prime example of his New Yorker model. It was built in 1977, when D'Aquisto's guitar had evolved significantly from those made by D'Angelico. Note the ebony tailpiece and the modern looking F holes. This guitar has survived with no cracks in the finish and only a few tiny cracks in the binding around the f holes. The floating Johnny Smith style pickup is in great shape as are the Schaller tuners. The sound is divine, even and smooth with lots of complexity and character.
This guitar was built for a player in Maui (which is the first time I saw this guitar). The original receipt is included. The original subsequently consigned this to Mandolin Bros. which is where I purchased it in 2006. It has been kept in a humidity controlled environment of 45% since I’ve owned it.
I linked a great YouTube video about Jimmy and Jim Hall. Worth watching.I'll be happy to answer any questions.
I have this guitar listed for sale locally and reserve the right to cancel this listing at any time.
