About This Listing

Named after the British WWII fighter plane, this Spitfire is indeed the proper guitar for a dogfight. These guitars were made for Vox by EKO in Italy for only two years-1966 & 1967. This Spitfire is totally complete and is missing nothing. Normally a great collector piece-this one has been carefully set up and actually plays great! The guitar is in great condition and has just had a complete tune up with fret level, crowning and dress as well as a pro setup. Works perfectly and needs nothing. The body is the original finish and has a couple of dings where your arm would rest. On the backside, there are a few more along with some scratches along the bottom edge. The pickguard material is notorious for shrinking and one corner has separated near the screw. There is light warpage in the top edge of the pickguard but the good news is there are no cracks. The neck joint is super solid with no issues. The neck itself is straight and the action is low with a perfect slight relief. Guitar plays fantastic and fast! The nut is 1.70” wide and the neck profile is a nice C-shape. the white binding on the neck is in excellent shape with no separation. The tuners all function and the guitar stays in tune. The frets are clean, polished and original. Fretboard is clean and oiled and appears to be real Brazilian rosewood. The pickups sound incredible. Pretty much exactly like a 60’s Stratocaster except a bit more exaggerated. Outstanding clear bell tone reminiscent of JIMI’s strats. All three are perfectly balanced. The rear knob controls volume, the middle controls tone cut and the front knob may be a presence control-doesn’t seem to affect the sound at all to me. Tremolo tailpiece has a taller spring so you can get a wide vibrato effect. Functions perfectly without issues and everything rolls smoothly. The mute bar foam is deteriorating but easily replaced. Guitar is fairly lightweight at 7.56 lbs. and sits nicely in your lap.
Original Vox teardrop case is included and it is the earlier grey style.

Basically the same exact set up that a Vox Phantom has, but way more playable and 1/2 the cost! These Vox guitars are a real bargain and it’s virtually impossible to find a quality 60’s vintage guitar under $1000-but here it is. This one plays as good as it looks and it sounds even better than both
This guitar has a tone that is really amazing-it has a vintage Fender grit to it with the clarity of an amped up late 60’s Stratocaster and you know you need that.
