2019 C.F. Holcomb Kodiak, Quilted Mahogany

We love collaborating with our builders on custom order for our clients—this latest 2019 Kodiak from C.F. Holcomb knocks it out the park. After our last Kodiak sold (the one with The Tree: ), we immediately commissioned another one, this time in highly figured Quilted Mahogany. One-piece Cocobolo neck, Lollar P90 neck pickup, single cone resonator with antique bronze cover and tailpiece. Played in Open G or D, this Holcomb is an absolute joy. Putting it through its paces in Standard for some flatpicked fiddle tunes? A blast. The setup is slinky and quick, and that pairs nicely with the sweet, enveloping voice. This Kodiak weighs only a little over six pounds, pretty light by resonator standards, and that translates to a instrument that’s easy to keep cruising on for extended periods of time.
