Gretsch G6143 Spectra Sonic 2005 Black MIJ

Spectrasonic

Here is an amazingly cool looking, somewhat rare, and very desirable 2005 Gretch Spectra Sonic. This is the Made In Japan version. Before you jump at the exceedingly low price of this rarity, please read carefully, there are some modifications.

First and foremost, no cracks or breaks to the wood anywhere. The finish is quite shiny but has a lot of surface scratching and some dings. Photos show how shiny it is – lots of reflections. There are 2 stickers on the back. One is on the wood of the guitar, the other on the control plate. I did not try to remove them.

The story I got about this guitar was that it was used as a testbed for lots of pickups. Therefore, the bridge pickup route is a tad bigger than stock. My tech used a standard pickup ring to cover the edges of the route. As you can see, this works well – to the point that it almost looks stock. But the original would not have had pickup rings.

Tuners were upgraded to locking style. Pickups are supposedly prototype TV Jones (they are definitely TV Jones of some sort). They are sort of a variation on De Armonds. Original pickups are long gone. A knob and pot were added to give each pickup it’s own volume knob. Not sure if the other electronics were upgraded or changed.

The biggest aesthetic change is of course the pick guard. It had a white version of this same custom guard on it when I purchased it. I thought it would look great in Tortoise, so I had this one made. It is brand new and I literally just took the plastic off (some remnants of the plastic around the knobs). The white version is also included, as is the original pick guard.

So, definitely a player’s grade guitar – but a killer player and a head turner for sure. The neck is straight and the frets have minimal wear. Everything works as it’s supposed to. It had a setup when the pickguard was done. It plays and sounds great.

The sale includes a very large TKL hardshell case that fits the guitar perfectly. This is in good condition.

I ship to the USA only. Flat rate shipping is for the lower 48 only. Elsewhere will pay actual shipping cost. I accept payment by Reverb payments.

Sold as is, no returns. Please ask all questions before buying.
