About This Listing

Original 1944/45 Gibson J45 Banner acoustic guitar.

For sale is an original Gibson Banner, 1944/45 acoustic guitar.

The guitar was purchased by the current owner 20 years ago from respected musical instrument dealer and appraiser “Vintage Instruments” of Philadelphia (see photo of purchase receipt). The guitar was sold to the current owner in “very good plus” condition by the seller. Since its purchase in 1999, the guitar has been de-tuned and put away into storage in its case. It has been rarely taken out and played during the last 20 years.

  • “ONLY A GIBSON IS GOOD ENOUGH” banner headstock script
  • Solid spruce top
  • Solid mahogany back and sides
  • Brazilian rosewood bridge
  • Brazilian rosewood fingerboard
  • Mahogany neck
  • Original pickguard
  • Original “3 on a plate” tuners (in good working order)
  • Adjustable truss road (working as it should)
  • Tapered Headstock

As stated above, the guitar was purchased in “very good plus condition”, and is being sold in the same condition (see attached photos).

Original nitro finish.

The current playing action is set at a comfortable “medium / low” with no fret buzzing, but has room at the saddle to be set even lower if required. The frets are generally in good condition with only a few wear “divets” in frets on the first and second strings in the first three positions.

The guitar has numerous scratches and small bumps over its external surface. These don’t affect the instrument’s playability or structural integrity. As you would expect, there is a lot of picking action wear in the region around the sound hole.

There is a 50mm (2 inch) repaired hairline top crack caused by a curling of the edge of the top of the pickguard.

There is stable 50mm (2 inch) surface crack in the centre of the lower bout side not needing attention.

The guitar has installed “new” Kluson” tuners to save wear and tear on the original three on plate units that will be supplied separate in a box. The guitar comes in a Gibson “BOBLEN” hard shell case from the 1990s that is in good condition.

The guitar can be consigned to and shipped to an overseas purchaser at the purchaser’s expense (insurance included). The freight costs listed are estimates only. The final shipping costs will be negotiated with the purchaser based on their choice of freight forwarder and level of service. The new owner will be responsible for importation clearance and for all taxes, duties and charges applicable at the point of importation. Packing for transport will be provided at no expense with photos provided prior to dispatch.

A copy of the original Vintage Instruments 1999 purchase receipt for the guitar can be provided to the new owner as proof of origin.

Shipping is available worldwide.

 Located in Perth Western Australia.
