This is Carrasco Serial # 1. A new model built by Island Instrument Manufacturer, in Montreal Canada. Island is a one man shop. Esteemed Luthier Nic Delisle builds each instrument by hand one at a time. Island instruments draw inspiration from the past while bringing the guitar into the new age, using modern and old-school techniques to achieve a superbly crafted guitar. No corners cut here.
This design very much lends itself to practically every playing style imaginable. Players who feel cramped on most modern guitar necks or who love to finger-pick, will certainly enjoy the wider 1 11/16" nut-width.
The Carrasco sounds larger than life both clean and driven. The pickups are Mojo Pickups UK Blade P-90's. They certainly have a familiarity to their voice and are close in tone to a standard P-90 but they utilize one Blade shaped pole rather than six individual pole pieces. This leads to a more mellow yet less muffled P-90 tone, that can definitely still growl with the best of them while bringing added clarity to each note.
The Body is made of Yellow Cedar and the neck is built from Northern Ash with a Roasted Maple Fingerboard. The use of these mostly non-standard, safely harvested, reclaimed and non-endangered woods, makes for an instrument that may look familiar, but is a bold statement in environmental awareness and activism; especially in a day and age where the most revered "tone woods" are either highly regulated or endangered species, most of which have been mystified by the larger, well-known brands/corporations who use them so often, as that is what was available to easily source many years ago. The woods chosen here, make for one light weight and well-balanced instrument seated or standing. Fun fact; the guitar ways 6lbs 6.6oz, pretty fitting for such a mean looking instrument. The thin milk-paint finish allows the wood to really breathe and resonate. The Carrasco is a stunning new Island design with attitude.
