1966 Gibson EB-2C Refinished in Cherry
with Brazilian Rosewood Fretboard
Nut was replaced with a left handed nut
Sometimes when you buy a Bass or Guitar it comes with a crazy story. The previous owner of this particular bass had one of those stories. After living in his house for a few years he decided he refinish his basement. While tearing down drywall he found a dead cat squished behind the wall, he also found a door. Freaked out by his discovery, he went and grabbed his machete. With machete in hand he opened the door and found a Steve Urkel doll, a Beanie Baby collection, and this Bass.
This Bass is a Gibson EB-2C. C stands for Cherry finish. Jimmy Page used a mid 60's Gibson EB-2 when he played bass for The Yardbirds. The serial number is for 1967 but parts such as the pickguard suggest that it is actually from 1966. The Bass originally had a glossy cherry finish but was refinished, in a non glossy cherry color. Reranch makes a period correct Gibson cherry finish if you are interested in restoring the bass. You can make it any color you want or leave it as it is. The bass has had a headstock repair. It's playable but you may want to have it glued again. Some of the Frets are slightly popping up on the edges. They should be pushed down. The Bass is missing one fastener for the mute on the bridge. The bass's nut was changed to a lefty nut my guess is that this was done in the 1960's. The nut has a hairline crack in it but is still functional if you want to use it as a left handed bass. If you are a righty you will want to replace the nut. The inner sticker is mislabeled, next to style it says "Guitar". If you want a vintage Gibson from the 1960's with a Brazilian rosewood fretboard and a lot of character this may be the bass for you.
Bass comes with crazy story. Bass does not come with a case.
