Serial number: 1351039
A tribute to the bass used by John Paul Jones on the 1969 Led Zeppelin North American tour, which now resides at RIC headquarters. The main difference is the bridge pickup location, which is in the typical position as opposed to immediately next to the bridge. This gives the bass the classic growl that made 4001 basses so popular.
The 4004L used for this modification has the construction of a 4004Cii - maple/walnut/maple body wings were used. This stackup can be readily seen in the newly-cut control cavity of the bass.
This bass has toasters, a vintage-spec wiring harness, 4001v63 gap-tooth tailpiece and bridge, an acrylic tugbar, and Rickenbacker Schaller tuners. An acrylic truss rod cover was not used in order to maintain the appearance of the "big" headstock - the modern acrylic truss rod covers are simply too long.
The bass is in great condition with just a few dings on the headstock, nearly imperceptible unless you're really looking for them. I have given the bass a setup and it plays wonderfully with a straight neck and low action. Rickenbacker roundwound strings are used.
Comes with a reissue silver tolex hardshell case to complete the vintage vibe.
