Optonica was Sharp's high-end audio brand and its attempt to make inroads into the audiophile market.
As one might expect, its products were largely passed over, as a result of the Sharp name and its association with cheap and not-so-great gear. That doesn't mean that what was manufactured under the Optonica name was bad - far from it. A little bit of Google searching will reveal that the brand's products were in fact, by and large, very, very good.
What this means is Optonica stuff is still, for the time being, largely underrated. It's good stuff and terrific value.
Here we have a turntable in very good functional condition and stunning cosmetically. The design is really, really top notch, with its thick glass cover (note: a couple barely noticeable scratches) and industrial, minimalist looks. I mean, look at how nice and flat it is with the lid closed! How cool is that?
The needle needs to be replaced, but the cart is good. It takes a bit to get up to speed (a few quick seconds). Once there, it's running as smooth as silk, with at 33 and 45 RPMs.
This is a turntable that will play and turn your albums very ably, giving you excellent sound, and will also turn heads! (couldn't help myself there - haha!).
Thanks for stopping by :)
