American Showster Guitars 80's SHEVY AS-57 CLASSIC BIKER GAS TANK Black Flame on a motorcycle, All Original W/OHC EX+ code VA677 American Showster first gained recognition in the guitar market with the introduction of its '57 tail fin-shaped guitars in the mid-to-late '80s, and then later with its metal-loaded guitars, which used metal inside of the guitar bodies to add extra sustain. What has always set American Showster guitars apart tonally is their creative use of metal to enhance the guitars' inherent sound and sustain qualities. Compared with the '57 tail fin guitar, the Icepick is a much more conventional-looking instrument, but it still reflects the company's automotive motif and also uses metal to augment the guitar's sound.
Bill Meeker and David Haines started American Showster in 1986 out of New Jersey by building custom guitars that pull their design language from the world of hot rod motorcycles and classic cars. The company produced custom instruments in the US with template models manufactured in Czechoslovakia until 2004. Bill Meeker passed away in 2011 after briefly reviving the company.
The Biker series featured guitars that used motorcycle gas tanks as bodies. Most featured dual humbuckers with a tune-o-matic bridge.
