Up for sale, a Sadowsky NYC 4-20 J-Bass in near mint condition and in perfect working order. Custom built in New York, Sadowsky crafts sought-after, top-tier boutique basses with a balance of vintage and modern sensibilities. With a lightweight two-piece ash body, highly figured quilted maple top and a maple neck with a thick slab rosewood fretboard, this Sadowsky utilizes its premium tonewood compliments to great effect. The four-knob active preamp enhances the traditional Jazz Bass array, with controls for Volume, Pan, a stacked active Treble/Bass, and the venerable VTC (Vintage Tone Control) knob which has push/pull functionality to bypass the active tone circuitry. Featherweight on a strap at only 7lbs 11oz, this bass has been professionally setup here at Mike and Mike’s Guitar Bar with flatwound 45-100 D’addario Chromes for spot on intonation and comfortable action.

The solid maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile that fills out with increased depth and roundness as you move towards the body, measuring .832” deep at the 1st fret and 1.010” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard has a 34” scale with pearl dot inlays and slender vintage-style fretwire. The frets are virtually unplayed, retaining their full factory height with well rounded crowns and playing cleanly up the arrow straight neck. The nut measures 1 1/2“ in width. On the headstock, a round string tree and set of Fender-style Sadowsky-branded open back tuners function as intended with flawless chrome plating and a smooth gear ratio.

On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, with a Volume, Pan, Vintage Tone Control knob and active stacked Treble/Bass knob governing the two Jazz Bass-style single coil pickups. Cosmetically, this Sadowsky is incredibly well preserved, with the only sign of wear being a single tiny shallow ding on the bass side bout edge. Otherwise, this bass is in like-new condition, with fresh-looking hardware, a brilliant white 3-ply pickguard, and a stunning Bora Blue gloss finish with dynamic and lively figuring in the bookmatched maple top.
