AKG D109 was designed in the mid-1960s to meet the demands of high-quality voice reproduction in television and film. It was beautifully made, with an elegant nickel-plated brass body, and ingeniously designed so that it can be used in several different ways:
With the Lavalier necklace removed, you get a very discreet interview microphone. Even today there are few omni-dynamic interview microphones in this small (less than 3 inches). AKG D109 Interview mode With the necklace in place, it can be worn like a classic Lavalier hanging around the presenter's neck.
It also has a clip on the back of the necklace to attach it to clothing.
By raising the collar above the microphone grid, you can increase the high frequency response to compensate for the positioning of the microphone on the artist's chest under the chin.
