This rare and beautiful Martin is one of only 45 that were built in 1995 of Martin's Sing Out D-28SO commemorative guitar, issued to honor the beloved magazine that made the words and chords to so many folksongs available. Modeled after the classic "S "dreadnought model, it has the 12-fret neck and rounded shoulders of the early dreadnought style. It features a Sitka spruce top with herringbone binding and east Indian Rosewood back and sides, with a 12-fret neck topped by a slotted headstock. Unlike the earlier "S" model that Martin made for several years, it has a much more playable neck that measures 1 3/4" at the nut instead of the standard 1 7/8." The headstock features a black-bordered gold Martin emblem and rounded slots, while the tuners are three-a-side engraved Waverlys with white buttons. It has it has slotted diamond inlays on the unbound ebony fretboard at the fifth, seventh, ninth and fifteenth frets. The Sing Out logo is inlaid at the fifth, ninth, seventh and fifteenth frets, and there is an abalone exclamation point inlaid in the heel. It is in remarkably good condition, with no nicks, scratches, dings, or other damage. It comes with the original thermoplastic case, which is in equally good condition. There is a paper label inside containing the number of the guitar (11) as it relates to the issue of 45, as well as the signatures of Martin CEO Chris Martin IV, Sing Out Editor Mark Moss, and folk singing legend Pete Seeger. It closely resembles Martin's current D8VS model, but it's had more than 20 years tol oosen up, and it has a very deep and distinctive voice of its own.
