Up for sale, a Schecter Simon Gallup Ultra Spitfire Bass in near mint condition and in perfect working order. The signature model of Cure bassist Simon Gallup, this Thunderbird-inspired bass channels the essence of dark new wave post-punk, with a giant "1979" across the black gloss body celebrating the year Simon joined the band. The neck-thru construction paired with an all-mahogany body results in a thunderous, resonant low end, and a rich platform for the passive EMG TBHZ humbuckers which provide a punchy clarity that accentuates the warmth and growl of mahogany. The bass balances well on a strap at 9lbs 5oz, and has been professionally setup here at Mike and Mike’s Guitar Bar for accurate intonation and comfortable action with 45-100 roundwound strings.
The neck has a medium C shape with a thick slab rosewood fretboard and flawless medium jumbo fretwire. The scale measures a full 34", and the GraphTech Black Tusq nut is 1 1/2" wide. The Thunderbird-style headstock sports Simon’s signature at the top along with a set of chrome Grover mini bass tuners with a smooth 20:1 gear ratio and low mass design to avoid any unnecessary neck dive.
All of the electronics work as they should, with a dedicated Volume knob for each pickup and a Master Tone control for smooth treble roll off on the pair of EMG TBHZ custom passive humbucking pickups. Cosmetically this bass is in top-notch shape, with the bold red graphics contrasting nicely with the black gloss finish and chrome hardware. The grip-tip speed knobs are minty, and the chrome Tune-O-Matic bridge provides optimal adjustability and stability. The pickguard still retains the factory layer of protective plastic, emphasizing the like-new condition of this instrument.
A gigbag is included.
