Bruce BecVar Series I 1978 Eight String Bass ala Alembic Triple Omega-Led Zeppelin

For all you Led Zeppelin or Alembic fans out there, this is the ultimate collector's piece.  This is an extremely rare Bruce BecVar Series I eight string bass in original unmolested excellent/mint condition.  BecVar was one of the first and best luthiers at Alembic from the early 1970's to 1978.  In 1978 he started his own shop and line of basses after his amazing success with John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin, who used one of the most iconic instruments of his career...a BecVar triple omega eight string.  Construction is identical to an Alembic bass as he was likely building these when still working at Alembic, and the workmanship and quality are Alembic caliber.  The BecVar Series I circuit is laid out like an Alembic Series I circuit with a master volume, but uses his proprietary active preamp, and no power supply.  The bass is wired in stereo, but I am supplying a stereo to mono cable for ease of use.  This bass is 100% original including the finish, and original Alembic blue hardshell case.  The scale length is 32", and the balance, playability, and action are superb.  The bass is fairly light weight.  The core is mahogany, and the top and back are walnut.  The neck is laminated maple.  It uses the Alembic dual truss rods which are working perfectly, and are tightened less than half way with the neck being perfectly flat.  Frets are like new.  Pickups are BecVar design, but were obviously cast in the Alembic molds.  Fingerboard is ebony with Alembic oval mother of pearl inlays.  This was a one owner bass until this year, and is a total closet queen.  Bruce BecVar's work is fantastic, and he is noted as having a guitar in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York's permanent collection.  I have spent forty years looking for one of these, and this is the only one I have seen let alone been able to buy in that time.  So, how does it sound?  Absolutely incredible!  Whatever BecVar was doing with that circuit and pickups, I have to say it is just mind blowingly good.  Whether played with the fingers, or with a pick, this bass is full, clear, and just plain awesome!
