1960s Sound Co. X202+ Tube bass amp. All working Sounds great! Has original 15" Jensen Special Design speaker which is a ported not open back like the fenders of it's day. Amp utilizes 2 "7868" power tubes and preamp section is (1) "12AU7" with (1) "12AX7". Amplifier controls on front are 2 Inputs, Volume, Bass, Treble, Polarity switch and Power switch Tolex is in good shape except for the back which can be seen in pics.
Filter capacitors replaced in the past year (see last pic) with high quality Sprague "ATOMS" (2) 30uf 500v and Illinois Capacitor (1) 47uf 450v which matched the original capacitor values. Amp also has a new power cord 3 prong, when added the polarity switch and extension speaker jack were eliminated form the circuit but physical switch and jack still there. Last 2 picture show power cable that has been replaced other chassis pic's show original but it has been changed. Other than than that amp appears to be all original.
Sound amps were made in Mineola Long Island NY (1960's) by a John Dougherty, a former Ampeg employee, who later went on to run Marlboro amps, made by MICA (Musical Instrument Corporation of America), in Syosett. They were the original Peavey of their day, making transistor amps from single 6" practce amps, up to 2 X 12 combos. They used transformer driven transistor amps, which actually sounded tolerable.
The Sound amps were pretty well made, sometimes had no NFB, and used similar circuits to AMpeg and Oliver stuff (the DNA didn't fall far from their tree). Using 6EU7's and 7591s, 7868's and so forth.
John also invented and patented the Quadra-Sound Blender, an outboard effect, which combined tremelo, vibrato and reverb, to produce a couple of unique surf-like effects.
