For Sale Austin, "Sonny Jr Four Ten" Guitar or Harmonica Amplifier. The amp is based on the Fender 5F6-A circuit, commonly known as the "59 Bassman"and are hand built to the highest level of craftsmanship, using a combination of new and some NOS vintage parts. The vintage parts are the NOS PIO (Paper-in-Oil) Military-Grade capacitors, that give the amp the added frequency response and improved sound. This amp was built in 2006 and I have the original sales Invoice for $2,350.00. The original owner bought it for his son and then did not use it, has been stored in closet since this last year when I purchased. I have been playing with in Austin venues and on several recording projects as a session harmonica player. It has never been in cigarette smoke, stored in a clean place and is basically in mint condition.
The pine cabinet and tweed has a process only Sonny Junior uses to treat the tweed, I believe it is a 5 coat process using polyurethanes and tinting.
In the realm of Harmonica, Sonny Junior amps has more pro endorsers that any other harmonica amplifier. Active Endorsers and where you can see these amps credited on albums (Kim Wilson being an example) include: Charlie Musselwhite (on TV with Cindy Lauper he is playing one), Mark Hummel, Gary Smith, etc. I first met the owner "Sonny Junior" in 1976 when he was the valet for Sonny Terry. Have owned many of his amps and I have owned at least 10 original Tweed Bassmans from the earliest of the 5F6-A (I think serial #0017) in 1957 up to 1960 with P10Q speakers, several of these were 100% original an electronically untouched down to the very last capacitor. I also had three (two '58's and a '60) changed over to these NOS PIO capacitors and the sound of the amps were improved.
Speakers are two Weber A125 Alnico (same as P10Q Jensen) up top and a pair of Eminence Ceramics in Bottom. After much experimentation this was the best combination Sonny Junior found. I have used this for harmonica and there is one resistor change at the #2 channel first input for a higher impedance crystal microphones. Otherwise, to my understanding the amp is a 100% true to the original Bassman Circuit.
I have played these amps side-by-side with original Bassmans, they sound as good. I have also owned several other Tweed Bassman "replica" Boutique amps of various one-of-a kind and some know brands, such as Victoria and have yet to see or hear any that sounded as close to the original Bassmans as these.
I am downsizing to a smaller amp and have something smaller custom built so, this will do better with a guitarist or harp player who can give a good home.
Comes with Owner's Manual, Original Purchase Invoice copy, Padded Tuki Cover, Excellent Tubes!!!!
