I found this gem tucked away in a mom and pop Dallas, Texas music store a couple of years ago. The owner said it was "dead stock" from 1990, but the bass had clearly been played as it had some character marks. I love this bass but it's just too much for me, as I play folk and am more comfortable on a short scale. This bass is a monster with amazing growl, and it needs to be with someone who can use it to its full potential.
From what I can tell, the bass is stock. Body is either alder or basswood (I can't tell), neck is maple. It weighs about 10 pounds. Pickups and gold hardware all appear original. Condition-wise, it's very clean apart from a few minor dings around the edges and on the back (they don't show up well in the photographs). The most glaring is a half-dime sized divot on the bottom underside of the cutaway, but otherwise it's just minor dings and scratches. There are no other issues apart from these minor cosmetics.
The electronics all seem to be working properly and I haven't had any problems with them. The knobs all function well (two volume, one tone), though the front volume knob has a little bit of springy give when you turn it all the way up. It turns just a little bit more, but springs back. It doesn't affect the function at all, but the other two knobs don't do it so I wanted to mention it.
I just did a setup on this (minor truss and saddle adjustment), so the action is good. Strings are less than two weeks old and are D'Addario Nickel Rounds.
Bass will be shipped in a used USA-made Guitar Center gig bag.
Rex Brown from Pantera used to play this model, and he's from Dallas, where I found it. So you never know! I really would like to see this bass go to someone who can appreciate it, as it's got a really unique look and so much character!
