Offered here is the highly acclaimed Larrivee OM-40R. These guitars are USA made with all-solid woods (check out reviews of Larrivee in general and this model in particular), including:
- · Solid Sitka spruce top
- · Solid East Indian Rosewood back & sides
- · Ebony fingerboard, bridge and headstock overlay
- · Maple binding front, back and fingerboard
- Engraved open-backed 18:1 tuners...Grover Sta-tite type.
- South American Mahogany neck
- K&K 'Pure Western Mini' bridge-plate pickups
- 25.5” scale
- 17-21” compound fretboard radius
- 1.75" nut width
- High-quality Larrivee hardshell case
The guitar has rope-style (like a semi-herringbone) purfling and sound-hole rosette, mother-of-pearl inlaid diamond-shape position markers and headstock logo. These are braced with a hybrid traditional style bracing that gives extra punch & power in the low/low-mid registers, while maintaining the excellent tonal balance that Larrivees are known for. True to form, this guitar is LOUD for a smaller bodied guitar & rings like a bell! I have three other Larrivees, all of which are larger body styles, and this one equals the loudest of them in terms of punch, volume and balance. I would stand this guitar up to any equivalent Martin costing twice the price.
This example has had the bridge and bridge-plate slotted, a very common modification done in order to increase the break angle of the strings over the saddle. In order to accommodate this modification, it has been fitted with custom Bob Colosi un-slotted, dyed-bone bridge pins with 3mm abalone dots. I’ve fitted the guitar with a Tusq saddle as I felt it gave a more high-fi tone than the bone one did. It also has been fitted with the highly regarded K&K Pure Western Mini passive sound-board transducers (SBT) for amplification, which do not suffer from the annoying piezo 'quack' that typical undersaddle (UST) pickups exhibit. They function quite well with most on-board console or acoustic amplifier preamps, although an external preamp or DI box are recommended for best tone/impedance matching.
There are very minor cosmetic flaws including a scratch on the top/ lower bout that does not go through the finish (pictured, but you can only see it in certain light) and a few minor dents in the maple binding that are impossible to photograph...you can feel them with your fingertips but apart from that, they're virtually invisible. The headstock is free of dents/dings and the back is free of scratches.I expect that the $50.00 I will charge for shipping will actually be twice that cost but I'm willing to effectively share the cost of shipping with the buyer.
