Here’s a 1983 Alembic Spoiler in black finish with chrome hardware (Schaller tuners). The finest instrument I've ever had the pleasure of owning! There aren’t too many of these black beauties out there! I think I have seen maybe 3 or 4 others in the 25 or so years I've been aware of them. The majority are naturally finished Koa or Zebrawood. If you’re a Cliff Burton aficionado, you know he played one almost exactly like this for a short time before it was stolen! Jason Newsted also played Alembic basses for a few years and this bass absolutely nails his tone from the Black Album tour! Metallica is but a tiny footnote in the world of Alembic artists of course. You probably already know Alembic craft some of the finest instruments in the world and have been played by the likes of Stanley Clarke, Mark King, John Entwistle, Phil Lesh, Peter Steele, and the list goes on and on.
I had this Spoiler setup a couple of years ago and it’s just sat in the case or hung on a guitar holder since then. Maybe an hour or two of play in the last few years. It's in very good condition for its age - a few small chips here and there, some fine "checking" in the some parts of the finish (like the headstock, near the logo) scratches, etc, but fully functional and has not had any structural damage or electrical issues. Just the kind of wear you'd except for being a bass made in 1983. That said, I have not played it much and babied it in the almost 20 years I've owned it! As far as I know, this bass is all original.
Here is the build record information as given to me by Alembic (Mica):
1983 Spoiler medium scale
Koa top
Maple neck
Mahogany body
Ebony fretboard
Black finish
Completed 4-14-83
Set up by Jonathan Day
I will ship the bass in a used Gator flight case. It's like the standard Gator ABS molded plastic cases, but definitely sturdier/heavier plastic and designed for the rigors of airline travel with recessed latches. If you're outside of the USA, please contact me first to see about shipping options to you.
Thanks
