American Stage cables are built to ensure that your tone comes through exactly the way you want it.

In = Out™ Signal Transparency

Nothing should come between your instrument and amplifier – that includes your cable. Ordinary instrument cables can adversely affect your pre-equalized tone, robbing you of harmonic content and sonic detail. Planet Waves cables utilize exclusively designed technology to ensure optimized “sweet spot” capacitance and impenetrable shielding to achieve our trademark transparency.

This is not voodoo! Lower cable capacitance allows your instrument’s brilliance, presence and true character to be transmitted to the amp, ensuring the signal going into the cable comes out with the utmost clarity and articulation.

In=Out By Design

Capacitance 101:

A standard instrument cable in its most basic form is made up of a center conductor, insulation, a shield (which is also used as a conductor) and the outer jacket. Now, let’s look into how it all affects tone…

When you pluck the string of an electric guitar, the vibrations are converted to electricity by the pickup. That current flows through the cable to the amp, where it’s converted once again to sound. As the electrical signal passes through the cable, it encounters resistance. Think of a stream of water moving down a brook- it encounters resistance as it passes over the earth. In electrical terms, that resistance is also known as capacitance.

High frequencies are affected more by capacitance because they are made up of shorter waveforms than low frequencies. Therefore, the longer the cable, the more the capacitance, and the greater the loss of high frequencies.

While we can’t eliminate capacitance, we design our cables so that its effect is minimal. You end up with a cable that sounds full and natural, faithfully reproducing all the tone you work so hard to create.

Cable Care:

While Planet Waves cables are built for life, they can always use a little TLC to keep them in tip top shape. Proper coiling and storage methods can dramatically improve the life of your cables and along with the use of our handy elastic cable ties, can also make setup quick and easy.
