About This Listing

Ibanez MC940 Fretless 1982 bass -Rare – Crafted in Japan – All Original with Original HSC

Lay down some greasy bass lines or just add a thick tapestry of lush fretless bass with this early 80’s made in Japan fretless Ibanez Musician series bass.

This Ibanez model of bass is held in such hi regard that Ibanez made a very limited 30th Anniversary run of them but these were thousands of dollars more than this one.   This is the very best of Japanese craftsmanship!

This basses has cosmetic wear but is in perfect playing shape. There are various bumps and bruises on body and a few on the headstock. This is NOT a new bass – it IS a players bass for Stage or Studio.  The string action is so close to fingerboard very minimal pressure is required to press the notes down. This bass is very easy to play!

Find plenty of thick to cutting ‘voices’ using the 2 magnetic pickups that can be used passively or with the on-board 3 band active pre-amp.   A blend pot is used to choose either pick up or blend tones of each into your sound.   Each EQ knob as well as the balance knobs have center detents that make finding the center a cinch.

Notice the pics of the control cavity and how meticulously engineered it is and the shielding ‘cup’ that is affixed the control cavity plate

The neck pick up is an Ibanez humbucking sized version of a Fender® P Pick Up. It is hum cancelling and very quite.   The bridge pick up is a single coil ‘J’ Style.

Each pick up as threaded pole pieces that can be adjusted with a small flat head screwdriver.

The fretboard has offset fret markers on to help navigate the very clean Ebony fingerboard and can also be found on the side of the fretboard ((one 1/4” indention around 11th fret. The neck is dead straight and will accommodate heavy gauge steel, pure nickel wound or my personal choice nylon taper wound rounds.  For the best of the fretless ‘experience’ I would keep these on or use the flatwounds of somesort.

Rich Stained Ash Body ‘wings’ that has strikingly gorgeous wide grain.

9.5 lbs in weight

Black Fender® Neoprene strap is included – this strap feels like it takes 2.5 lbs off the bass!

The neck is multi-laminated Maple and Walnut that runs through the entire contour rounded body

34" Scale Length

Elegant Gold Hardware but is worn in places

Gold ‘Chevron’ style strap buttons add an elegant touch to this player

Original Hard Case with lime interior and a center pocket that accommodates a good amount of storage

There are plenty of Basses out there, but this rare Ibanez Musician has grace, style and tone!
