- Hand-soldered and assembled in Asheville, NC with through-hole components
Two wave shapes are provided: Triangle and Sawtooth cover the most useful modulation needs. The frequency of the LFO ranges from 3 seconds to well into the audio band
- much wider than any typical tremolo. Use the SPEED knob or expression pedal input, or Tap Tempo, or Clock Input. Use the DEPTH knob to go from a slight warble to a total stutter, and use the BIAS control to adjust the "on time" of the modulation. The MIX knob let's you dial in just the right amount of post gain clean signal, none at all, or completely dry. The GAIN knob can boost or cut the signal for a wide range of instruments and signals. The LEVEL knob controls the overall output with enough boost to work with line level inputs or drive your amp's front end for great amp overdrive. The expression pedal input is scaled by the SPEED knob so you can set an upper limit with the knob and expressively sweep the modulation speed.
In TREM mode, the Spectravibe is a uniquely versatile tremolo. The MIX knob blends the effect and clean signals for a wide range of Tremolo sounds. Together with the BIAS knob, you can dial in any type of vintage amp Tremolo and sounds that you could never get from those amps. Using the BIAS you can get a "repeat percusion" stutter to a smooth sway and evrything inbetween. When enabled, the Modulation footswitch allows you to tap in a tempo based on the division dip switches and you can go back and forth between tap and SPEED changes in tempo at any time giving you complete expressive control over the tempo of the modulation.
In VIBE mode, the Spectravibe is phase shift vibrato with two voices and a voice modifier for a total of four voice variations that are selectable via the DIP switches on the back of the pedal. If no vibrato DIP swithes are on, the VIBE switch puts you in a modulated bandpass filter mode. These voices are further varied by the BIAS and MIX knobs to give a wide range of voicing possibilities. Together with the DEPTH control you can dail in an incredibly wide variety of vibrato sounds that allow you to recreate a variety of vintage tube amp true vibrato sounds as well as new vibrato sounds not heard in other vibrato pedals. With the DIP switches set to for bandpass filter, the BIAS knob becomes the center frequency control of the unique EAR voltage controlled bandpass filter. In this mode you can get rotary speaker sounds and even a Hammond organ like vibrato sound. This filter is very resonant and has a wide frequency range that spans the upper "air" down to low bass territory. This filter can be used with or without modulation. Without modulation, it acts like a parked wah or frequency booster. The MIX knob allows you to balance this effect from subtle to full on!
The unique resonant filter has an extended range that brings out the best of your bass, guitar, and keys by dailing in the right passband range for that instrument. Use it on a send while mixing as a "secret weapon" EQ. Go from sweet and shimmery to a bubbly underwater sci-fi filter with the DEPTH knob, which controls the amount of frequency modulation. The MIX control will add back unfiltered signal that is essential for nailing a watery rotary speaker effect.
The Spectravibe can be used purely as a versatile booster. Turning the DEPTH all the way down cuts off the modulation completely or turn it off via the footswitch when enabled. The BIAS, GAIN, and MIX can all be adjusted without modulation for a wide palette of tones. Add that to the high-level amp-driving output.
To use the Spectravibe as a type of Ring Modulator, set it to TREM mode and turn the frequency of the oscillator into the audio range. The DEPTH, BIAS, GAIN, and MIX knobs all interact in a way that make this it's own style of Ring Modulator. Plug in an expression pedal and you can control the pitch of the oscillator mid-solo.
Great guitarists know about the parked wah tone trick - that is, using a wah-wah pedal as a band-selectable frequency controller. To do this with the Spectravibe, turn the DEPTH knob all the way down and sweep the BIAS until you dial in the perfect tone. Turn the MIX knob all the way (filter only) to highlight the frequency band you want to boost. Once you've found it, start turning the MIX knob up to find the blend you like. Finally, use the GAIN control to adjust the drive of the filter and the LEVEL control for overall boost to get the perfect amount of bark. It's a tone tweaker's dream!
The Tap Tempo can be used at 1:1, 1:3, 2:1 or with both divisions together at 1:1.5. You can grab the SPEED knob or move the expression pedal at any time to change and tap again when you need. When using the CLOCK in jack, you can send a clock signal and Spectravibe will follow it in the selected division. In 1:3 (triplets) you can easily tap in faster modulation speeds. In 2:1 you can use KORG products via KORG SYNC and lock to the tempo at the correct ratio! 2:1 also makes it easier to tap in slow modulation speeds. When using the clock input, the SPEED knob and expression pedal are still interactive, so you can expressively shift the tempo and after the modulation will snap right back to the clock speed. The CLOCK input can even take it's tempo from a DAW track such as a click or a drum to sync Spectravibe to an existing tempo accurately. Even apps from your phone can be used, including Audulus and KORG SyncKontrol apps which will allow you to introduce swing! The Spectravibe requires a standar 9-volt DC tip negative pedal adapter, and is protected from reverse polarity. Spectravibe needs only 45mA of current from your pedal supply. Pedal does not include a power supply.
With the versatility and analog tones this pedal provides, the Spectravibe will become the single most important pedal on your board - so important that you'll probably want two!
