Classic Vintage Recording Studio & Engineering is selling its fully restored Vintage 1965 Altec 1566A tube microphone/DI/line preamp (s/n:391544)! Goes from clean to overdriven tube crunch with the turn of one knob! Tubes, transformers, and all-original Cornell Dubilier coupling caps - it doesn't get any better than this! You can also use this as a high-impedance (100k) DI for guitar, bass, keys, etc. and a line-amp (with user supplied input and output pads)! Check out the sound of my Altec 1566's in use on almost every track of the Soundcloud song at the bottom of the page! Also check out the youtube video at the bottom of the page - I used this exact Altec for the Bass, Vocals, and Guitar!
Here are the major highlights of the unit:
-Fully restored (replaced all electrolytics with high-quality high-temp Nichicon and Panasonic caps, replaced selenium rectifier with high-reliability high-current silicon diodes, replaced power cord with properly grounded cord) -Included Altec 4722 input transformer has selectable taps of 30/50 ohms (for older ribbons, etc) and 120/200 ohms (for everything from vintage tube mics to modern dynamics such as the SM57) -Included Altec 15095 output transformer has selectable taps of 150 ohms and the standard 600 ohms. -Both input and output transformers can be bypassed for high-impedance operation (100k on input and 15k on output) -The unit can be used as a line-amp with the addition of an h-pad on the input (easy construction details in the free online Altec manual)
Some flaws of the unit: minor scratches throughout
