Yamaha EX5, EX5R EX7 Custom Display Upgrade.
White on Black only available. (Negative)

This NEW Custom LED Display has a number of unique design features.

1. Custom Japanese FFSTN (negative) Tri-Axis LCD panel for improved side to side (lateral) and 6o'clock desktop/keyboard view.

The White on Black looks great sat in the EX keyboard / rack. Say bye bye to that awful green LCD forever !

2. Optimised display contrast to match the existing Yamaha contrast control.

Display contrast is perfect @ the midway setting on the Yamaha contrast control. This was possible by analysing the characteristics of the old display and replicating its VOP specification. These things are possible with custom designs.
The end result is a display that requires NO modifications, resistor change etc to correct the contrast. Display will arrive ready to Plug N Play !

3. Oversized LED backlight.

Largest possible backlight footprint, keeping LED's away from the viewing area to avoid unwanted lightspot. The result is a flat, even background / border with minimal imperfections. With these negative displays, the backlight design was very important. If the border was patchy and uneven due to LED lightspot, it would ruin the look of the display.

4. Custom AA optomised metal bezel.

The metal bezel on this display has been specified to within 1mm of the active viewing area. This is an unusual feature not found on any other display. The result when combined with the oversized LED backlight is a perfect looking negative display, with a flat black border. The oversized AA optomised metal bezel can be seen pictured last listing pic.

5. Custom 5000K Pure White LED's.

The LED's used on this display are pure white 5000 Kelvin types. They were specifically requested. I wanted pure white light to maximise the display contrast. Combined with the backlight design, custom bezel dimensions and the highest quality 'FF' double film compensation / polarizers. The final result is a display that looks nearly like an OLED, nearly ! Its as close as it's possible to get with a Negative Black LCD.
Its very difficult to get the black display 'right'
A significant number of revisions were required during design to achieve this aim.
Marginal gains philosophy was applied to everything, the collective result is, indisputably, the best looking Negative Black LCD available.

6. Fully adjustable backlight dimmer.

This feature is absolutely necessary with the black display. The blue display is not so fussy. Before it ships, the brightness will be set to the level 'i' think is correct for the black FFSTN glass. You can, ofcourse, adjust it further to either brighten (anticlockwise) or dim (clockwise) trick is, not to boost it too much. When its clearly readable @ arms length, it's bright enough. There is a point, a sweetspot, where the graphics are not too bright and not too dim, the background is as black as possible and it looks amazing. Armed with the backlight dimmer. Its possible to dial in this sweetspot perfectly. It simply needs fine tuning. The dimmer is located on a long ribbon cable, adjustment is possible with a small screwdriver. The display can be mounted, connected up, keyboard fully reassembled, then display switched on and backlight brightness set up from your normal viewing position. When the brightness is set to your liking, the trimpot is tucked inside, out of the way. Its purpose is 'set and forget' only !

This EX display is based on the RS7000, RM1X design we finished recently. That display will work in the EX but won't physically fit inside. As a result, a completely NEW display had to be designed specifically for the EX. A new display means, new tooling costs and factory MOQ. This display is a financial risk for our shop. It fits a very limited range of instruments, it will probably be years before we break even on the costs, if ever. Despite this, we still went ahead, designed it, then had it manufactured. This display is one of the best things in our reverb shop, the lcd construction had to be miniaturized to fit the cramped space in the EX. The display to install is clever also. There are no mounting points, no screw holes. Nothing. Unusually, the connector is in-between the bezel mounting points. The display bezel overhangs the board in places. This was necessary to get the graphics centered in the EX viewing window. The whole thing has been squeezed into a small wedge. Tiny enough to fit in the limited space of the EX. To install, it simply 'clips' into the existing space of the old display backlight. Effectively, a whole new display has been designed to fit into the space only, of the old display backlight. It shouldn't really be possible. A lot of time and effort has went into designing and manufacturing this special unique EX display. The pursuit of perfection, means the display is built by 2 different companies. One to produce the special Tri-Axis glass. The other, the chip on board and final assembly.
The display will arrive, ready to Plug N Play !
NO soldering is required !
NO modifications are required !
Simply, bolt it in, connect it up, reassemble then switch on and adjust the backlight dimmer from your optimal viewing position.

***This display is specifically configured to upgrade your EX5 and EX7. The viewing angle is set during manufacture @ 6o'clock view. Correct for a desktop/keyboard instrument. Its important to fit the correct type, otherwise the look and functionality of the display will be badly compromised. Both displays have a 6o'clock viewing angle***

***If you need the display for an EX5R, youll need a 12o'clock view type. Specify that when you buy. ive had both types manufactured. 12o'clock view is correct for something thats racked. Its important to fit the correct type, otherwise the display looks and behaves in a sub optimal way***

Simple, step by step Plug N Play installation instructions are available on request.
Its NOT necessary to employ a tech to install this display. I've designed it to be simple to fit.
The only tools required are x 2 screwdrivers.
NO tech skills are required !
NO soldering is required !
NO modifications are required !

**this listing is for one (1) Plug N Play display only**

**If you buy a display, contact me for instructions when your ready to Install**

Under NO circumstances should this display be dismantled or disturbed in any way. There are NO user serviceable parts. The display is Plug N Play !
