Alembic 2006 Custom 28” Extra Short-Scale 4-String Electric Bass Guitar

Mica Wickersham herself calls this a “Cool bass!”

Super rare. Only one other 28” scale Alembic bass is known to exist.

If you’re a guitarist, have small hands, want to play piccolo, or are just looking for something unusual, then this is the bass for you.

Strung conventionally (EADG) with D’Addario EXL170S Nickel Wound Lights, 45-100.

Can also be strung ADGC with Baritone strings (72, 56, 44, 30) and played as a piccolo (an octave higher than bass, and an octave lower than guitar).

I hereby confess that I, a lifelong amateur guitarist, every 4 or 5 years get the grand idea that I'm going to buy a short-scale bass and somehow magically become the bass player that I always dreamed I wanted to be as a teenager in the 1970s.

Alas, I never get beyond buying the bass, which then sits pristine and rarely-played in my closet, because neither my chops nor my imagination come anything close to the mastery of the genius Phil Lesh, whose bass lines soar and thunder in my head.

And I further confess that I recently did this yet again this year. You would think, given the fact that I turn 60 years old on my next birthday, that I would have learned a lesson from this repetitive insanity. But NO!

My loss is your gain. This bass is in immaculate, pristine, mint condition. I bought it from the original owner who was a collector, not a player. This bass doesn’t have so much as a fingerprint on it!

Spec's:

Serial number: 06C13666 (birthday October 26, 2006), originally custom ordered through Bass Northwest, Washington

Body shape: EVH (Edwin van Huik signature design) with straight elbow cut

Headstock shape: Cone

Pickups: Alembic MXY4

Controls: Volume, Pan, and Low-Pass Filter with Q switch (which allows the 8 dB boost that the filter always offers, plus the option to dampen the boost to near zero for a flat filter response)

The low-pass filter is the same tone control that Ron Wickersham pioneered in 1969, introducing active electronics to the musical world. With this one tone control, a wide range of sounds from deep to bright are available with a simple twist of one knob. Even a small amount of rotation can produce a big change in tone.

(Pickups and controls are those of the Alembic Essence model).

Body: Alder (“Very rare on an Alembic. I can think of one other off the top of my head.”
— Mica Wickersham)

Neck: 3-piece vintage amber-toned Maple with 2 Walnut pinstripes

Top: Walnut

Fretboard: 24-fret Ebony with narrow taper (1.5 x 2.15, same as current Stanley Clarke basses)

Fretboard binding:  Pearloid (“Pretty rare.” – Mica Wickersham)

Fret markers: Oval Mother of Pearl

Nut: Solid brass

Bridge: Solid brass

Tailpiece: Solid brass bar-shaped (“capsule”)

Tuners: Gold Alembic‑Gotoh

100% Made in Santa Rosa, CA USA

Ships in new Levy’s gigbag

Note on shipping:

My work schedule is such that I can ship on Saturday ONLY.

No matter what day you buy the bass, you’ll have to wait until the next Saturday before I can ship it.

Thus, to be fair, I say it ships in a week. But if you buy it on Friday, it ships in a day. Etc.
