Mitch Mitchell's 1960s Ludwig Drum Set, $19,995

A true piece of rock drumming history! This is a Ludwig 60s era drum set that was owned and used by Mitch Mitchell. Mitch was a tremendously talented drummer and was a true force behind the kit with the Jimi Hendrix Experience. This set came from a Bonhams auction in the UK. The set went from Mitch to Collin Allen (of Stone The Crows). Collin acquired the set from Mitch in mid 1969. Collin then used the set himself with Stone The Crows both in the studio and live, and then sold the set in the 70s. A letter of provenance was written by Collin Allen and is included with the set.

The set is a black wrap and the sizes are 9x13, 16x16, and a 12x22 bass drum. The drums are unique in that there are no vent holes in any of the drums and no badges on the 13 and the 16. In fact, the badge on the bass drum is glued to the shell, and there is no vent hole there. The bass drum has a tom holder mounted onto the drum in the top panel, which is a bit different from the standard offset position. The floor tom also has an added Ludwig bracket near the top of the batter side. Brackets such as this were sometimes added so as to be able to mount a cowbell or other item. The tags from the Bonhams auction are still on the drums. Amazing piece of rock history! The drums will ship from Miami, Florida. Plan on about $1,000 shipping.
