Kay K365 Apollo/Titan II (1960s)
This guitar has elements of both models. A true Kay head-scratcher.
The K365 Apollo II represents some of the last instruments to be made by Kay Musical Instruments in America before being sold off to Valco and dissolving in 1968. Though the 1968 catalog stated the body was made of "solid Mahogany," some players claim it must have been chambered due to the hollow response it gave when knocked. While not one of the more highly sought-after Kay models, these guitars are quite rare. The craftsmanship on this guitar is not that clean, as careful examination of the photos will show. The inlays and fingerboard are not the finest ever built, but despite that, the neck plays great, and the “kleenex box” pick ups sound great too.
