This is it on price. I'd rather keep the drums than sell them for less than this.
This is a beautiful set of Gretsch USA Custom Drums circa 1983 or so.
It's hard to date these drums precisely without a guide. The sizes are
10x12, 11x13, 16x16, 16x22 (matching 8x14 snare drum listed separately). To be clear, this is not a Centennial kit. It's made from the exact same shells. It just doesn't have the brass hardware or badges.
These 5-ply Jasper shells that were made special initially for Centennial limited run, are sonically different. Keith Fisher, author of this article in Not So Modern Drummer, reached out to me to point this out () and said that these are super rare. This, along with Carpathian Elm and Birdseye Maple, were produced with less than 100 full kits made total between all of these finishes (There may not even be that many badged as Centennial Kits). These were arguably the best quality Gretsch drums ever produced, coming from the DeQueen, Arkansas factory, which was known as being part of the fine furniture belt of American woodworking. The quality of craftsmanship is unparalleled.
10X12 Model M4415 Rack Tom - 26780 11X13 Model M4416 Rack Tom - 26792
16X16 Model 4418 Floor Tom - 27110
16X22 Model M4247 Bass Drum - 26855
The kit is in very good condition. The batter hoop on the bass drum has the majority of the wear, which is shown. There are minor marks on the kit, but it's pretty clean considering their age. I can send more pics upon request, but the marks that I have included sum up the worst of it, which is really not bad at all.
The chrome hardware is in very good shape with minor scratches but no real signs of pitting or rust. I gave them a quick cleaning. A detailing of the hardware will have these in tip top condition. The original floor tom legs are included. This kit is only missing a rubber foot (branded Daisy on the other rubber foot).
