One of the most beautiful, unique, unusual, rare, desirable, playable vintage acoustic guitars you can find----this 1960s Vintage Fender Kingman Wildwood looks amazing and plays like a 60s Strat or Tele.
The Fender Kingman Wildwood was played by many of the 1960s Top Country Artists (I have seen pictures of them played by Johnny Cash, Buck Owens) and the Wildwood model was particularly associated with Charley Pride who used one live for several years. Elvis (Reverb.com won't permit me to include pics) used one and I won't even get into the recent $6000 Tom Petty model Kingman.
The unique color on the sides and back of these special guitars was achieved by injecting living beech trees with dye prior to harvesting. The necks were another incredibly desirable feature as they are basically the same necks used on 60s Fender Electric Guitars and bolted to a block inside the body. These rare guitars also utilized a resonator bar or "broomstick" which extended from the neck block to the bottom of the guitar.
Another special feature was the adjustable bridge which (unlike most other acoustics) allow you to accurately dial in the exact tuning/harmonics of each string.
This particular Kingman Wildwood is in near mint condition. The only flaw I can find is at the bottom, near the the strap button there is some slight marring (which would probably buff out) as well as even slighter marring on either side of the bottom---probably from a stand---which should buff out and was impossible for me to photograph. The Fender serial number suggests that this guitar was made in 1957 but I suspect that 1966 is more likely.
In terms of playability, I know of no other dreadnought that comes near the playability of these Fenders....I get a big smile on my face every time I put my hand on the neck just to pick it up. If you like the feel of a 60s Fender Electric---you will love the feel of this guitar. The action is low and fast. These guitars are not as loud and booming as a vintage big body Gibson or Martin, but the high, low and medium tone/harmonics are all there.
This guitar will be carefully packed and shipped in a new Hard Shell Case.
