About This Listing

1950s vintage German archtop jazz acoustic guitar, probably Antoria, with unusually shaped F holes and with a third sound hole.

I have only ever had one other vintage jazz archtop with a third sound hole. It was also German-made.

This is a lovely jazz guitar and being sold at a sensible price. I believe it is a German Antoria. It may be by another maker but it is certainly of German construction. The single bolt design in the neck heel is a give away. Also, there is just part of a label inside and the script is German. The bolt in the neck heel is an ingenious design. It allows for very easy neck adjustment, or for removal when travelling.

It plays very nicely. The action is very good and is currently set at around 2mm. The neck has a very slight bow but it really doesn't affect play. I’ve just put a new set of decent light strings on. As you would expect, the guitar has a clear voice with mid-high tones. It's lighter than most old jazz archtops that I have and the neck has a great feel.

The original tuners work fine. The frets show very little use and the jazz bridge works well. The adjusters work fine.

Overall, this is a very nice jazz archtop. It would be a great addition to a collection as it offers a little more projection than most.

Condition. I'm going to do my best to cover everything here but please use the images as additional information. Other than what has already been said, there are just cosmetics to comment on. There are just a few long splits to the lacquer on the top. The top is very well braced longitudinally, so this is a lacquer issue. I have used a mirror to inspect the underside of the top and no cracks show there. The sides are good and the back shows more lacquer checking.

The body bindings are fine and the same for the neck bindings. The nut has been changed at some point. This was probably done when someone decided to re-finish the top of headstock. It's OK, but could do with another coat of finish, or just polishing a bit. There is a very tiny nick in the top left corner of the headstock. The back of the neck is smooth. There are two very small nicks in the paint (they are shown in the images)

Overall condition. This is a very playable vintage archtop at a very sensible price, with some very minor cosmetic items.

Case? No case supplied.

Shipping: I will post it almost anywhere. If you don't see a price, please ask. Please note, if you outside the UK, Europe or the USA / Canada, please ask for a price for shipping as the price that you see is only a guide.

The shipping prices shown for USA / Canada, Europe and the UK are correctly shown.

I am selling most of my collection, so I have bought in special boxes and packaging so that I can safely post the guitars. So far, they have gone to many countries without issue. They will be shipped with a reputable service and will be tracked.

Thanks for looking
