What's better than a brand new Preston Thompson DMA? A Preston Thompson DMA that has 3 years of healthy play and has opened up into a fullness of punchy, woody, warm flatpicking goodness. You basically get one of the best dreads on the market, already opened up. The youtube link included is a video of this actual guitar being played at Lowe Vintage before I bought it at the end of January, by Presley Barker, who is likely to become a household name in the bluegrass world before all is said and done. The quality of this Preston Thompson signed guitar speaks for itself, but there's no surprise the likes of Charles Sawtelle, Molly Tuttle, Jake Workman, Billy Strings, Trey Hensley, Chris Luquette, Tim May, Dale Adkins, Adam Schlekner and others play Preston Thompson guitars. Expert-selected Adirondack Spruce Top. Honduran Mahogany back and sides, etc. (more here: pktguitars.com) On top of all that, it comes with a K&K pure mini.
Why would I be selling such a nice guitar? The only reason is that my family has recently decided to move our family into an overlooked neighborhood in our city to be good neighbors and work towards the revitalization of this area of concentrated poverty. I don't plan on giving up playing guitar, but playing a newish guitar worth over 4k in such a context might not be the best way to fit in. Also, I would like to have some cash freed up to meet other needs in this season if/as needed. I have really wrestled with this sale, as something about the warmth and punch in the sound of this guitar resonates in such a soul refreshing way.
This guitar is not in mint condition, but it's close. The only reason I wouldn't mark it mint is the normal light playwear and this weird finish thing/swirl I noticed on the top after I'd had it a while when the light hits it a certain way. It was that way when I received it from Lowe, and they are a very trustworthy shop! The last picture of the guitar (before the case pics) that is a close up on the top is an attempt to show it the best I can, but it only shows in certain light. Also, the super nice and safe harptone case () has a few blemishes as well and a broken lock latch from the previous owner. Also, as noted below, no returns. I've been as honest as I can and am willing to send as many pics, demos, or whatever I can to help to make sure you know everything I know.
I don't think you can be disappointed though. Just type Preston Thompson DMA into youtube for many excellent videos of people playing other DMAs to give evidence to the consistent qualities of these guitars. Use the names I mentioned above if it helps, because the links aren't showing up here, or I could email the links if you'd like.
