Hi and thanks for looking.
Up for sale is an Ampeg VT40 that was converted to a head at some point in its life. Effectively the amp is now a V2 as the circuitry is the same and the head box appears to be from a V2 as well. I am not sure of the exact year, but this model has the plastic rocker switches instead of the toggles of the earlier units. 1973-79 is a ball park. If anyone looking knows the year for sure, please fill me in.
The amp is currently not functioning properly. It powers up and comes out of standby mode and while an output signal is present with the amp on, it is drastically reduced from where it should be. To elaborate further, you plug your guitar in and the output volume is about 1/10th of what it should be. All of the tubes appear to be firing up. Reverb is also not working and never has been since this head has been in our possession - about 7 or 8 years. I feel this head is absolutely worth fixing however we have moved on to lower wattage amplifiers and are ready to let this one go at a very fair price.
Cosmetically it is in very nice shape.
These amps were rated at 60 (very loud) watts. Here are the specs from the 1973 catalog:
60 watts RMS
138 watts peak music power
2 channels
2 inputs
Input sensitivity switch
Volume, treble, midrange and bass controls
Selective midrange switch
Ultra hi switch/boost and cut positions
Reverb
