This is a 2008 Tokai Made in Japan SG-175. It is currently sold as SG-210. MIJ guitars for the Japanese, market represent the list price in Yen/1000. Thus, SG-210 MSRP is 210,000 Yen, or about $2,000
This is Tokai's TOP SG. I am just not an "SG" guy. This is a great guitar. Look at the specs. A guitar of this quality for under 1k is absurd. A few years ago the exchange rate was 80 yen/dollar and this guitar (and others) from Japan cost about 40% more. Take advantage of the current strong dollar/weak Yen !!!
The cheapest I could find a new one selling in Japan was for $1725 plus shipping costs. This is a Custom Shop quality guitar, with top notch electronics, components, one piece Honduran Mahogany body and neck (try to get that from the big G and see what it costs you)
The bridge pickup was switched out before I purchased it to some unknown Japanese boutique brand and is uncovered as pictured. I like the way this current pickup sounds but it has no cover. CW says this brightens up the tone a bit. I have no idea - but it sounds great.
If you can find ANY SG with similar specs for less please message me.
Go ahead. Do your best. I have yet to find one.
I'm seeing three piece body, non Honduran mahogany, poly finish SG'a for similar prices .again - the specs and reputation of Tokai as well as the list price near $2000 speak loudly
BODY - One piece Honduras Mahogany
NECK - One piece Honduras Mahogany
Head Angle - 18 °
BRIDGE- LPT-8N Aluminum Tailpiece
POTS - CTS
CAPS - Sprague Orange Drop
JACK - Switchcraft
FINISH - Lacquer Finish
Frets are in good condition, and it plays well at low action and is light, like SGs should be.
It has a few scratches on the back(pictured).
Comes with a gorgeous plush Tokai case.
The price (with free shipping ) is for US shipping only. If you live outside the US, please message me with your location. I will research the cost, custom requirements etc. and see if I can accomodate you. Some countries are simply too much of a pain to ship to and others are fine, so it's a case by case basis. I have shipped successfully to France and Canada among others.
Ask around, the MIJ Tokai Premium series guitars are often compared to the Big G's Custom Shop guitars.
