This classic Ampeg amp has bad to the bone tone and has been recently serviced by our amp tech. We are giving this a "very good" for description. Please note condition of parts of telex. This amp has some cosmetic issues, but the amp is in Excellent working condition!
They made this model with this configuration for only two years. It's the one that people look for. The early dual 6v6 power tube driven amplifiers like this badboy are some of the most revered old school tones across many genres. Tonewise, think Fender Tweed Deluxe or Deluxe Reverb. Ampeg was designing 6v6 gems and stood as Fenders main competition. The truth is, they don't make them like they used to.
The preamp circuit consists of two 6sl7 octal preamp tubes, two 6v6 cathode biased power tubes, a 5y3 tube rectifier, tone control, and tremolo.
The Rocket R-12 is conservatively rated at 12 watts per channel, but is more like 15 to 18 watts (especially with an efficient speaker), similar to Fenders tweed deluxe. And while sharing a similar tube layout, and having a deep, super warm honking "tweed" tone it most certainly has its own fabulous voice, distinctly Ampeg!
This model has great punchy, woody, jazzy cleans at low volumes, but when overdriven (which doesnt take much on the dial) compresses strongly into powerful blues and classic rock act.
The 50s White Jackson Pollack swirl grill cloth also stands out from later Ampeg production
The tremolo sounds incredible, one of the best tremolos out there on any amp. This amp is not noises! Very Quite as all caps have been addressed and replaced where needed.
