This is a presentation grade instrument from the family of the original owner. Harwood was a brand name used by J.W. Jenkins Company, a Kansas City, MO musical instrument dealer and wholesaler. They introduced the Harwood brand in 1885, although they did not manufacture these instruments. This guitar is stamped Harwood, New York on the back of the headstock, inside the body and inlayed in a plaque in the fingerboard. The body of this guitar measures 12/3/4" wide and 4-1/4" deep. It is made of the finest Brazilian rosewood we have seen. The body, neck and fingerboard are bound in ivory and the bridge is ivory with engraved ornamentation. There is marquetry trim on the top and on the sides; thin ladder bracing. The neck measures 1-3/4" at the nut and has a delicate profile. The tuners are gold, highly engraved and finished off with mother of pearl buttons. It is a rare and unusual instrument. In original condition, this instrument has had some crack repair over its life; two repaired top cracks beneath the bridge, marquetry and crack repair on lower bout treble edge, several repaired side cracks on treble-side,
