This is a rare Commemorative customized version of the G&L ASAT Classic model designed by Leo Fender. G&L Guitar produced this model after his death in '91 as a tribute to his genius and legacy.
BACKGROUND
After Leo sold Fender in 1965, he formed G&L Guitars with his friend George Fullerton, thus the G&L in the name. You can read more about the history of Leo, Fender Guitars, and G&L on Wikipedia.
I acquired this guitar from my father, who had a business across the alley from G&L Guitars in Fullerton, CA. He frequently struck up conversations with G&L employees, which eventually led to him buying this guitar.
ABOUT THIS GUITAR
- Extremely rare.
- Fantastic condition.
- This is guitar #65 in the series, and comes with the original signed number tag.
- Only 350 of the planned 1,000 were made.
- Never played, aside from a few finger strums by me.
- All electronics are original and work perfectly.
- Comes with all of the original paperwork, including the original bill of sale, owner's manual, and a certificate of authenticity signed by Phyllis M. Fender, Leo's wife.
- Includes original Allen wrenches for servicing provided by G&L.
- Includes original case.
- NOTE: There is one issue. The "Leo Fender 1909-1991" w/rose logo on the body has lost most of its gold highlights (see photo). G&L tells me this is normal and to be expected from spending 27 years in the original case.
As you can see in the photos this guitar is special. The sunburst finish is quite beautiful and sets off the spectacular gold hardware.
I'm selling it simply because I've had it for a long time and never play it. It needs to be in the hands of someone who truly appreciates its rarity and beauty.
Questions? I'm happy to answer them. Just get in touch.
Cheers!
