Interesting is the Dirt control, with which compression, sustain and overtone reproduction can be noticeably altered, turned to the left the pedal sounds more direct, more naturally, more dynamicaly, somehow more British voiced, turned mor to the right more compressed, thicker, a more American sounding voicing, also the distortion increases a bit.

The mother pride has its own unique character, I think, which sounds not necessarily totally British or American, but it has a little bit of both.

The basic sound is a very round, very good sounding, balanced, warm, typical (vintage) tube tone that reminds me a bit of some puristic vintage tube amps, without a Fender-typical mid-range scoop, but also less aggressive and snappy sounding than a Plexi, maybe closer to Tweed amp tones.

Destruction controls gain, ultraclean sounds are hardly possible, even at low settings the sound always has some decent, but very harmonic sounding "dirt" in it, as well as some decent, tube-typical compression, comparable to some tube power amp saturation. If you want to get a good woman tone even out of a Strat or Tele, you may be able to get closer to this goal with this pedal. Gain reaches from decent crunch to a kind of nice, intense mid-gain overdrive, ideal for a variety of 60s, 70s, 80s sounds. For Modern high gain or metal sounds the pedal is less suitable, may sound too harmonious, too little aggressive and sharp.

As already mentioned, Dirt changes the response and the overdrive character, which in combination with Destruction allows quite different sounds. Color is a well-tuned tone control.

The pedal produces - I think - very well these kind of tube sounds that also very good analog boutique pedals or even good digital modellers and software solutions usually hardly can (re)produce, these special sounds between clean and overdrive, which sound round and warm, fresh and transparent at the same time, with this tube-typical special, richer harmonic complexity and dimensionality.

As a distortion pedal I would rather not define this pedal, for me the possible sounds are decent to more intense, amp-like, overdrive sounds, but ok.

The original China 12AX7 tube I did not like too much so it has been exchanged with a slightly fresher and more natural sounding Sovtek 12AX7.
