About This Listing

(USED, 2012)  Beautiful handcrafted mandolin from Lawrence Smart of Hailey, Idaho. This is his satin finish SPIRIT VARNISH two-point model made of beautifully figured sugar maple and topped with Engelmann spruce and x Bracing.

The sound is full and balanced

The instrument is very well set up.  Frets were recently dressed by master Mandolin builder John Hamlett, and he also installed a new bone nut.   The details are some of the finest: hinged engraved JAMES tailpiece, gold WAVERLY tuners with ebony knobs, bound ebony pick guard, compound radius fretboard, gold strap button, tortoise binding 1 and 5/32″ nut – all with very HIGH grade handcrafted fit and finish. And the finishing touch is a super thin satin spirit VARNISH.  The bindings and purflings are stunning.

It’s an expertly handcrafted world-class instrument.
Includes two bridge saddles, compensated for plain or wound A string.    Neck is .90" at the first fret.
Price includes the very high quality rectangular (zipper and latch) CONCORD case with hygrometer.
This instrument would sell new for $7,500.
