A Postmodern Greatest Hits Package

In the literary world, postmodernists took the tools honed by modernist authors and used them to craft works that highlighted the absurdity of human existence while questioning the intrinsic meaning of everything. But, don’t worry: in the guitar world, there’s nothing absurd or meaningless about Fender’s new Postmodern Telecaster from the 2019 Custom Shop Collection! In fact, few things are more simple and fulfilling than sitting down with one of these bad boys and rocking out.

What makes these guitars so meaningful? Well, over the years, Fender has designed a wide range of inspiring guitars. Each period of their storied history produced innovation that made guitars feel, look, and sound different. For the Postmodern series, Fender has cherry-picked their most inspiring features from the past and assembled them into a cohesive whole. So, these Postmodern guitars aren’t beholden to one year or decade; rather, they take their inspiration from Fender’s entire storied history.

One Sweet Strat

The 2019 Postmodern Stratocaster is an especially intriguing entry in the Postmodern Series because of its versatile electronics and superior ergonomics.

It features a hot, punchy, beefy hand-wound Texas Special in the bridge position for an added dose of attitude. In the middle position, you’ll find a Fat ’50s Single-Coil, which really earns the Fat part of its name: it is laden with gristle, though it maintains remarkable clarity. Finally, the neck pickup is a hand-wound ’69, which has a brighter, glassier tone with more chime and sparkle (don’t worry: the low E is still quite satisfying!).

It’s easy to express yourself using these pickups, because the neck is simply glorious. Fender’s “boat neck” 10/56 soft V has been a Wildwood favorite for a long time for good reason: it works for most play styles, and its taper makes both low chord work and high lead playing feel natural and easy.

Atop that comfy shape, you’ll find a fretboard with a 12″ radius–a configuration that guitar luminary Eric Johnson loves. It’s easy to understand why: a 12″ radius makes bends much easier (not to mention, it allows for lower setups). Within that fretboard, you’ll find 22 medium jumbo frets that also help you bend while performing admirably in about every style and technique. All in all, it makes for a spectacular playing experience!

We’re proud to showcase such an inspiring instrument, and we know that the Postmodern Stratocaster will inspire you to reach new heights on your fretboard journey.
