Priced to sell, this rare transitional model featuring the slanted fat letter logo seen on L-7’s only in 1947. Gibson was changing to a new logo on a slant but had to use up old logo blanks. One of the last guitars to feature the old fat script.
Body size is 17“ at the lower bout and scale length is 25 1/2“. Nitrocellulose lacquered blonde finish with some checking appropriate to age of guitar. Hand carved solid spruce top, solid hand carved slab-cut maple back, solid birdseye maple sides. Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and compensated rosewood bridge. Split parallelogram mother of pearl fingerboard inlays and “crown” headstock inlay, triple-bound body, bound fingerboard and headstock. Nickel-plated trapeze tailpiece, original Kluson Deluxe tuners with single ring tulip pegs, adjustable truss rod, bound tortoise pickguard.
The body is in solid shape with a professional crack repair only at the lower end of the right f-hole and extending downward. The c-shaped neck profile is comfortable and not too chubby, the action fast and low, and the voice is big and woody. This guitar is gig ready featuring a recent fret dressing and set-up. Guitar currently has medium gauge flat wound strings.
The guitar comes with a Kent Armstrong side mount pickup that floats from the pickguard. Also included in the pocket of the hardshell case is a very rare 1947-era Kiesel pick up of unknown condition. The Kiesel chicken head volume knob has been repurposed with the new pickup. The lower part of the right f-hole has some wear from where the Kiesel controller was clamped on at one time. This guitar comes with a non-Gibson hardshell case in very good condition. SN 99849 White oval label ink stamped
