Fender Jazz Bass 1964 Candy Apple Red
This is a 1964 Fender Jazz Bass long ago refinished to a really cool Candy Apple Red. With all the hallmarks and defining attributes of a Pre-CBS Fender, this bass is a very serious player that's really got it.
Its refinish was brilliantly done, but only to its body and headstock, with a true-to-'64 silver undercoat. It had some body modifications over the years, including what looks like some routes for a battery in its back as well as a route for P-style pickups under its guard. It appears to have had a jack on its side, which has since been filled. Its pots are original, although its control plate and pickguard are not. It has a Lindy Fralin bridge pickup and a black or grey bottom pickup that may or may not be original. It's hard to tell for , but it meters well and sounds great. In fact, this pickup combo sounds fantastic, with the perfect blend of pop, growl, and roundness.
The neck on this bass - wow. It's really good. Exquisitely crafted and carved, and with its narrow nut width, extremely easy and comfortable to play. Its frets are in great shape and the clay dot inlays are in tact and super cool. This bass is also light weight, coming in at only 7 lbs, 12 oz.
This is a special one, no doubt about it. A bass like this puts to rest any question why Pre-CBS Fender was a golden age for instruments. It has been professionally setup with flat wound strings and comes with a Fender hardshell case.
