This guitar was custom made by Robert Engel of Engel Guitars in Connecticut.
I had inlays installed by Dan Neafsay of DGN Custom Guitars in CT. DGN Guitars also modified the guitar by installing a stratoblaster circuit, which is engaged by one of the toggles. One of the knobs adjusts the volume of the stratoblaster.
Guitar: The guitar has a spalted maple top and mahogany body along with a jumbo fret rosewood fretboard. It has Grover tuners and a standard bridge that you would find on a Gibson. The pictures speak for themselves. It comes with the coffin style case.
Electronics: H-S-H configuration. All pickups are Lindy Fralin. And the two humbuckers are coil tapped and with toggles can select series, parallel, and single. Two toggles are coil tapped and a third toggle engages the stratoblaster, which is used to fatten up the coil tap or add some extra gain and clarity. There is a volume knob for all pickups and a tone for all pickups. The final knob is for the blaster. The larger toggle is a switch that adds the neck pickup to any of the others. For example, if you are playing on the 5th position and switch the toggle, it combines the neck and bridge. If you are on the 4th position, already combining the middle and the bridge, this allows you to combine ALL THREE
Tones: Engel Guitars are mostly known for their deep full-bodied jazz tones, however, I used it for everything. It can do it all. I had the blaster installed so the guitar could hit the coveted Jerry Garcia tones, which it does perfectly (think Wolf tones with the middle pickup and blaster engaged). The guitar can match any tone you desire because of all the options whether it be searing lead, deep jazz, blues...anything. I have owned a PRS Hollowbody, a Gibson ES-137 Classic, and a Fender Strat and this can achieve all of these tones
It has never gigged or left my temperature controlled guitar room. I’m sad to see it go, as I have loved playing it, but am hoping someone out there will enjoy it as much as I have. I just can’t justify keeping it at the moment.
