About This Listing

Handcrafted in Nashville by Master Artisan Guitar Picks. Authentic USA civil war era shield nickel coin guitar pick, 1.5mm small jazz style with liquid smooth beveled edges that produce a voluminous attack and rich harmonic sound palette. (random date selected)

Guitarists began using coins and buttons in the late 1800's (the early band era) when guitar became a lead instrument, while also providing a rhythmic percussive accompaniment. Players used these commonly available items as plectrums to increase the volume of their guitar compared to the piano, horns and other stringed instruments they were competing with. By the "Big Band" era of the 1940's, plectrums crafted from bone, horn, metal and various plastics were readily available to players, as well as early electronic amplification.
