Stunning, close to mint all original 1953 Les Paul Goldtop. 8.4 lbs Early wraparound model that plays like butter. No cracks, dents, alterations, touch ups and NO CHECKING. This guitar is likely top 3 in the world...I can't imagine one this clean let alone owning her...the case is just as mint. I use the term "mint" simply because I have seen new guitars with more wear than this one...after 66 years, the term applies. 3 owners, all logged and noted with letter in guitar case. This should be seen, inspected and verified by the buyer first. I am happy to oblige. Out of respect for a new owner, I did not publish the serial #...simply ask if you are interested. Comes with the original case PLUS a Calton custom made gold flake travel case.
The Gibson Les Paul Standard stands as one of the most widely played and universally recognizable guitars ever. First marketed as the Les Paul model in 1952, the Les Paul evolved throughout the '50s until the design was replaced by the SG in late 1960. Up until 1958, the Les Paul sported a gold finish, and guitars from this era are collectively referred to as Goldtops. Goldtop Les Pauls are extremely prized by collectors, and each year showcases the major innovations made by Gibson throughout the decade.
Unique to this Year: Deficient trapeze tailpiece of 1952 is replaced by combination stud bridge/tailpiece by end of 1953. This Price Guide reflects examples with the stud tailpiece. Those with a trapeze tailpiece are less desirable to collectors.
