Up for sale, a 1985 Fender Contemporary Stratocaster, model ST-562 in excellent condition and perfect working order. Built in Japan at the now legendary FujiGen Gakki factory, the Fender Contemporary series of Strats and Teles were manufactured from 1984-1987, and were among the first Fender branded guitars to be exported to the US. Designed to appeal to the "Superstrat" crowd, this particular guitar has the traditional triple single coil configuration, with a Schaller "System I" vibrato unit and corresponding locking nut, similar the Floyd Rose systems that were the rage at the time. This guitar has plenty of sustain and percussive midrange played acoustically that translates well through the factory alnico magnet pickups that measure 5.7k in the neck, 4.3k in the middle, and 4.2k ohms in the bridge, with all the classic scoop and quack that we've come to expect from a Strat in the 2 and 4 positions on the blade switch. The bridge pickup twangs and the neck pickup has the round yet clear quality that makes it an ideal pickup position for lead work. The guitar weighs in at 8lbs on the dot, and has a surprising amount of sustain for a bolt-on neck instrument. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mikes Guitar Bar, the guitar plays well with low action, solid intonation, and 10-46 strings.

The maple neck has a medium C profile, with the faintest hint of a D, that leans a little towards the slim side of things, and facilitates fast playing very well. The rosewood fretboard sports pearl dot inlays, and 21 medium-jumbo frets thats show some minor wear in the lower frets, particularly under the unwound strings, but are otherwise in great shape. The headstock boasts a Fender logo, "Made in Japan" designation, a locking nut which is part of the "System I" trem, and a set of Fender Japan branded chrome Gotoh tuners that turn smoothly and hold pitch well.
The body features a gloss black finish, pearloid pickguard, cream pickup covers, knobs and switch tip, and the aforementioned chrome Schaller System I vibrato unit. All of the electronics work as they should, with the three single coil pickups wired to a five-way pickup selector, master volume, and dual tone knobs. The heel of the neck has the clear "ST-562" model designation stamp, along with one official Fender branded shim in the neck pocket, and the body is routed in the traditional fashion, with three individual single coil routes (not the "swimming pool" route seen on lesser models).
Cosmetically, the guitar is in excellent shape, with only one tiny nick on the face near the bass side body horn, and a few light finish scratches in the clear coat along the forearm contour. There is also faint buckle rash on the back of the guitar just south of the neck plate, extending to a portion of the plastic tremolo cover, but this guitar is otherwise in great shape, and has weathered the last three decades very well. This would be a great choice for anybody who wants the quintessential Strat, but with a more capable trem system (vibrato arm not included).
The original Fender branded gigbag is included.
